By a decree of April 29, 1977, of the Lithuanian Ministerial Service decided to allocate 911 hectares of land for the construction of ponds from the L. Gira collective farm. In 1977, a project for the construction of the ponds was approved with an estimated cost of 4.56 million roubles. The money was intended to compensate for environmental damage caused by the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant. The ponds took a decade to build. The first production in the ponds was made by the Ignalina Fish Farm in 1987. In 1988, the Ignalina Fishery Farm handed over the ponds to the L. Gira Collective Farm, and after the reorganisation of the farm, the Dysna Fishermen’s Collective Farm was established. The Dysna fishermen’s collective farm was headed by R. Vinciūnas until 1992.
